Queer / Multi-media Show

  • Mid-City Los Angeles, CA (map)

Hope You Have a Good Time x Queer is a multi-media show in LA drawing thematic inspiration from the following Bell Hooks quote as an expansive and inclusive definition of queer as a foundation for this conversation:

“[Queer] not as being about who you're having sex with - that can be a dimension of it - but queer, as being about the self that is at odds with everything around it and has to invent and create and find a place to speak and to thrive and to live” - bell hooks

For artists looking to submit to this open call we are accepting art of all mediums that answers the following question: In what ways do you as an individual find yourself at odds with space around you? In what ways do you break social molds or expectations.

The history of the word queer exists as a result of the work, blood, and bravery of gender non-conforming and trans people who fought for us all to be able to express ourselves. This word has been taken back by communities who have experienced significant harm and continue to be at risk simply for existing and presenting their authentic selves. In response to their work, we find a space to celebrate human existence.

Mounting & Display

For photography and print art, artists will be responsible for providing their accepted pieces ready to hang. For photographs, the curation preference is to have photos either framed and wired, or printed and hung with bull clips. Physical artwork will need to be dropped off at the group show location (in Mid City Los Angeles) by May 13.
